ephalus and Procris, Fran�ois Spierincx (studio), ca. 1593 - ca. 1610
Because Cephalus wants to know if his wife Procris him infidelity, he tries to seduce her in disguise. At the moment they seem to admit, he shows her his true form. The heavily depleted Procris flight to the goddess Diana, but then later still return to her husband again. Diana and Procris goodbye to the fore.
It focuses on Diana, dressed in blue brocade from Lucca with white birds and lions as a pattern, and Procis to say goodbye before the latter returns to her husband Cephalus, who had accused her of infidelity and for which they had fled. The moments of temptation and flights are back in nature and presented at the second plan. The foreground is dominated by the left and right smartly dressed hunter ash with their hunting gear, hunting dogs and falcons. In the bottom corners every two mythological figures: left Mars et Venus, right Leander et Haero. Delft. City Brand left in the blue bottom hem. HD (Holland Delft) signed between edge and center: FRANCISCUS SPIRINGIUS.FECIT.
